On a side note, Diana and I determined that our engineering management teacher says 'project' about 10 times a minute! Thats a total of 28800 times by the end of this semester! I dont know how he can stand teaching that subject.

Sport free days

The last two days have been sports free. I am not saying thats good or bad. I have managed to get on with my school work though.
I was most annoyed that at the start of the year our thermo fluids teacher gave an outline of the questions required, only they corresponded to an old textbook. Today he produced a new subject outline, which is for the new book. This outline means that almost 4 weeks worth of work is virtually useless. Not happy Jan. I guess that I will just have to play catch up as quickly as I can. Judging by the practice problems he gave us in class, I am not all that far behind. I hope thats a safe assumption.
On a much lighter note, I had lunch with Rody today. We had pizza, because I had a voucher for the local pizza hut. I have to say that the service at their store on Glenferrie road is very bad. We had to wait for 10 mins in line before we could place an order. Once we placed our order, we had to wait again. Them when they finally cooked our food it was wrong. They made a small when I had ordered a large. The man was most un-helpful when we pointed out the error. I dont think that I will be returning there again soon. The little guy down the road does a much better job and they have fast service too.
I guess thats it for todays rant. Other than the above problems, my day went smoothly, just as planned. I discovered that I have sent enough emails from my phone to make the email pack worthwhile, and its only half way through the month! However I think that the daily news pack was greater value. Oh well.

The Women's Double Trap Shooting event. I found out that because only 4 countries were competing, that is why there was only silver and gold awarded. Aussies came 3rd, but thats still second last.  

Sports mad

Well it seems like all of Melbourne has gone sports mad this week. Well, everyone except Scotty, but thats another story. In a way I guess it is good that we are all getting into the spirit of the games, after all the cash our state and federal governments have dumped into having it here.
Yesterday I went to see the shooting. The event was double trap, mens and womens divisions. Much to my surprise, the shooting is actually a really enjoyable spectator sport. We cheered on as our aussie boys won gold in their competition. The aussie girls did not go as well, not even making it onto the podium. I'm not quite sure what happened there, because they only handed out a gold and silver medal. What happened to bronze? Anyway, congratulations to the English girls, who took gold in the womens double trap. Good work.
For the next couple days I have a break from the commonwealth games fever, because I have to concentrate on uni work. Wednesday is the next event I am attending. Its the athletics, at the MCG, I dont know what particular events will be that day though. Should be fun.
On Thursday I am starting a stint of house sitting at Kelly's house. Kelly goes to FTG church, and asked me to feed the acts and keep an eye on the house for her while the family is on holiday. I have house sat there before, and nothing too traumatic happened, so this time should be ok too.
When I get home, I will upload photos of all the action at the shooting events.

Aussies won (did you ever have any doubt) the score was 8 to 0. Go Aussie! 

The ladies teams were up next, Australia Vs Malaysia. 

Everyone who came with us, including Janet, Michael, Tim, Marion, Dan, Rachel and Chris. 

At half time, they watered the feild. The grass is fake though. I think Rachel said something about how it helps with friction or something like that... 

The first match we watched was the Ausse Men's team against the Scotland Men's team. Australia won, 5 to 1. 

We had a beautiful night for watching the hockey at the state hockey and netball centre. It's in Parkville, just next to the Melbourne Zoo.

I am at the hockey right now. Oh, the wonders of modern technology. The Aussie men's team won 5 to 1 against Scotland. The womens game against Malaysia is about 25 mins in, and the score is 2, oh wait, 3 to 0. We are winning! Yay, how exciting.

The Germany crew all went out for dinner at the only German resteraunt in Melbourne, and it was almost like we were back in Germany! 

I think in total, last night there were 90 thousand people in the stadium, and 110 thousand on the banks of the Yarra. That's 200 thousand people that managed to catch public transport to the event and home again! That is a testament to connex and Melbourne's public transport system.
 

I love Melbourne, I hope this event will make other people fall in love with our city too.  

Fireworks didn't just fill the stadium, but it filled the entire city! I think almost every building in the city was rigged with fireworks, and all down the Yarra river was alight.

Delta Goodrem sang a new song after the Queen opened the games, which was beautiful. Delta was surrounded by performers on rollerskates with fireworks in their backpacks!
