Prague

Last weekend I went to Prague. It's about 5 hours from Berlin by train, and is in the Czech Republic. The first thing I noticed when we passed over the german border is how run down the buildings are in Czech. Many of the buildings looked like they had never been refurbished, and some were falling apart. Maybe that was a poor part of the country, because once we arrived in Prague there was a big difference.
Almost every building in Prague has been rennovated and refurbished back to the traditional design. This may have been done specially for the tourists, because there are literally thousands of them!
Everywhere we went in Prague there were masses of tourists. I'm not entirely sure if the people running the stores were Czech. There is a beautiful old castle in Prague that has never been touched by war. It's pretty amazing to be able to see some of the oldest architecture in europe. I was amazed at their attention to detail, from the intricate stone carved handrails to ornate window coverings made from gold, everything was built to glorify the king.
After doing the tourist thing in Prague, we went to a club near the river. It was pretty cool, featuring 5 levels with different style music on each level. I was surpeised at how cheap it was to get in, it was only about $7 in aussie money. I didnt look at the bar prices though, because I got a cold and wasnt drinking.
The weather was even colder than in Berlin! I was temped to buy one of them furry Russian hats, but resisted migrating to the dark side....
Only a week left till I get home, I'm looking forward to it.

Parts of Prague are quite beautiful, it is a nice city… as one poet says “part forgotten, part modernised, the home of a fool, Prague was my home, for alas so long”.

Overall it is a place that I wouldn’t mind spending a bit more time.
