Happy Birthday Jesus

Well, as you can probably see from all the photos, Christmas this year was very busy! We had Christmas food coming out of our ears! I think I counted a total of 5 meals we have had over the past 3 days to celebrate Christmas.
Tomorrow, Chris and I leave to go on a big adventure to Perth. We are attending NCYC while we are in Perth, and will be gallivanting for a couple of days either side of the conference. I hope to be able to tell about our adventures on my blog using my mobile phone, but I am a bit skeptical. We may not be able to do any photos either. (So that's a warning not to expect any major updates while I am away.)
I pray that everyone enjoyed their Christmas festivities with family and friends, God Bless.

VIcRoads Ordeal

Well yesterday I got my full licence after about 2 weeks of dealings with VicRoads. First, I paid via Bpay, and they lost my payment, then I called them a couple times, spent over an hour on hold all told, and then I had to visit the VicRoads office anyway! How rediculous! Anyways, now the long and short of it is that I now have a valid 10 year licence, and it's got a new photo on it too. (check out how good my car looks without P plates)

The long, hot summer.

Well, since I last wrote, a lot of things have happened. (I managed to put up some photos, but didn't get around to writing.) So this is a bit of a catch up post before the Christmas avalanche of parties and food.
I last wrote while I was sitting in the car waiting for Chris to turn up to the Middy's Christmas party. The party was at a place called "Bondie's Barn" in Bayswater. I had never been there before, but apparently it's quite a popular functions only venue. The venue itself is in a converted factory, and is fitted out with heaps of memorabilia and trinkets celebrating cricket, fishing, footy and all things Australian. Chris was impressed that they even had some hot air ballooning pictures up on the walls.
Thursday the 14th of December was just another ordinary day at work, but after work I went to the last church council meeting for 2006. We discussed a whole bunch of things, including the possibility of starting a church cluster blog! I thought that was a neat idea, and have been volunteered to be one of the main coordinators for our church's contribution. What do you think? Will the worship teams embrace the idea? I am skeptical, but like the idea of trying something new. Following the meeting, we had cake and other Christmas food to celebrate and socialize.
Friday night, Chris and I went out to dinner with Neil. He chose a restaurant in the city which served delightful Italian food. I think the place was called Grossi Florentino. I was very brave, and tried a mushroom risotto for starters, followed by duck and finished off with some beautiful dessert (which I can't remember the name of). All this was accompanied with some fabulous wine and great dinnertime conversation. Neil sure does have a knack when it comes to selecting great places to eat!
Saturday was a crazy day. It started off early in the morning with Ballooning Photos in the city. I then went to meet Chris in Surrey Hills to inspect a house. The place was a cosey little unit in a quiet street. The only problem with it is that it's too expensive for what it is. Oh well, I guess the search continues.
Saturday afternoon I worked at Kmart, which was surprisingly enjoyable. I didn't have to deal with any grumpy customers at all, and people seemed to be going about their Christmas shopping in a calm and orderly fashion.
Saturday night was John's 21st birthday party (refer to photos below). It was at John's Mum's house, and was for a BBQ dinner. The weather was fabulous, and everyone seemed to have a great time there. Chris and I represented the "high school friends" and the rest of the people there seemed to be family or family friends. (Rather odd, but John seemed to have a great night)
As with most of John's parties, the night would not be complete without some dramas! During the speech that John delivered, he forgot to mention Jeff at all. (I forgot to mention Chris in my speech too) Instead of doing the mature thing, and talking about it later with John, Jeff decided that the most appropriate course of action was to take his jacket and go on a long walk. (A 2 hour walk to be exact!) He missed the re-lighting of John's birthday candles and was not there to say farewell to the guests. John was most upset.
Once we left John's 21st, we went to Diana's 21st birthday party. Unfortunately, by the time we got there, most of the partying was over and done with. There were still people there who we knew, and Diana was still enjoying herself. Chris and I were sort of tired, and sitting down on the couch proved deadly. We both fell asleep. (refer to photos) Thankfully, Sunday was a day that Chris and I had both requested off from Ballooning, so we could sleep in.
Sunday afternoon kicked off with a pool party for the break up of the church youth discussion group. It was good fun to catch up with everyone, and we managed to get into the pool too. The weather was perfect for a pool party, with just a cool breeze. I had a great time at the party.
The afternoon was spent Christmas shopping at Knox City. Chris and I managed to complete all our shopping!! We even found a great set of baking dishes which Janet wanted to buy for us. (I'm sure they will look fabulous in our house once we get one)
Church on Sunday night was great! It was a party to celebrate Jesus (as all of the Christmas season is). There was singing and dancing, and I really felt that we are coming together to become a closer community. =) Following church, Cheyne, Chris and I went to the Monash Carols By Candle-light in Jells Park. It was also great fun. I practiced my photo taking skills on the fireworks at the end of the night.
Monday evening was the break up for the 18 plus group. The BBQ and pool party was at Helen and Dave's house. The weather was too cold for me to go in the pool though. I ended up playing Taboo instead, even though I was not very good at it.
Tuesday night was a quiet night in, and gave Chris and I a chance to write out Christmas cards and wrap gifts. I still have a huge pile of cards that need to be sent to people. (So sorry if you don't get your card until after Christmas)
Wednesday night after work, I drove around dropping off some Christmas cards, then Chris and I had dinner with Mat at his place in Caufield. Mat cooked a yummy dish of noodles and chicken satay. Mat has his house all decorated with Christmas decorations! Stepping into his place was like stepping back into the USA for a white Christmas. There was even a miniature train set under the perfectly decorated tree.
Thursday night was Chris's real work's (Selectronic) Christmas break up. The party was at AMF in Boronia. The evening started with a 3 course dinner in the upstairs function room, and was followed by some great games of bowling. I managed to get three strikes in a row!!! (Then I bowled a zero, so it was a bit of a waste) I scored 145 in one game, which I think could be a personal best. There should be some photos up from that sometime today.
